Berlin & Beyond's 10th Birth Day Bash in SF

Just a quick reminder: from January 6th through 13th Berlin & Beyond, the festial of Austrian, German, and Swiss films, now in its 10th's incarnation, will take place again at the Castro theater in San Francisco. This year's star guest (among many other directors and actors) will be Bruno Ganz who will receive an Award for Lifetime Achievement in Acting. Swiss actor Ganz is well known for his many contributions in numerous contemporary German language movies such as Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire. His latest role was to play The Führer himself in a controversial movie about Hitler.

I don't know if and how the recent protests surrounding the Castro theater will affect the festival. The program itself -expertly put together as usual by the Goethe Institute in SF- has certainly several interesting movies on tab for SF film buffs and Berlin ex-pats alike. Take note of The Edukators which will kick-off Opening Night, starring the same team and some well-known and well-liked faces from their successful debut in Good Bye, Lenin!

Tschüss, Servus, and Adieu: See you at the Castro.
