Digitala Pionjärer: Scandinavian encounters with computer art

In the recent flurry of shows, catalogs, and other events bringing the history of computer art to light another exhibition came across my mail box via e-flux. This one takes place until January 23rd in the Malmö Konsthall. It is a new media art biennial organized by the Swedish Art and Technology group Electrohype (what a great name!)

Earlier in 2004 the same Electrohype put together a show of the "electronic visual experiments in Sweden 1960-1980". In conjunction with the exhibition a new book was published by Gary Svensson entitled Digitala Pionjärer (That's what they call the Digital Pioneers in Swedish.) It covers early digital art and the research process that resulted in Gary's doctoral thesis. A short summary is available online.
